Hi all

No blog tonight, I've had a few other things to sort out....  It's been a bit busy.

Check back in tomorrow and I'll give you the full run down.

Thanks for your support!

Best of Luck

You have been awesome man, we're going to miss you like crazy!  But I think you're being very honourable; family is the most important thing after all.

Thanks for everything you have done for NZ cricket and us cricket nutters, good luck for the future and I hope you'll keep us posted on the goings on over in England (you're so lucky by the way, I love it over there).

:D

Now

I think you need to take a serious look

Bowling

The continuation of your great bowling shows how much we are going to miss you, Iain. Disappointed for you that you didn't get your 5 wicket bag. You certainly deserved it.

What has bemused me is the number of times you have been on top of the batsmen at the lunch or tea interval in this series only for Dan to replace you with another bowler immediately after and the batsmen to have then regained the initiative. I would have thought it better to keep you on for a couple of overs after the break and, if it didn't work for you, then give you a rest. Admittedly Chris Martin got a wicket in the first over after lunch yesterday but had Dan kept you on immediately after that break you might have got your five wicket bag AND made inroads into the tail sooner than what occurred.

I do hope you are going to make yourself available for Wellington's two one day games this month as I would love to have a final chance to watch you in at action at the Basin before you fly off to join Rosie in England.

Good luck for the rest of your test.

Nice bowling...

I'm sure this time whole team would support your effort and congrats on the very special bowling spell.

A note to Rosie

Your husband is a rockstar, and you are one of the luckiest women on earth. To Iain: I have literally run out of superlatives. You've officially broken the scale that measures awesomeness. I wish you didn't have to go!!

tomorrow...?

The lack of news is a bit ominous, but I just wanted to say I hope you're doing all right and that we see you out on the park tomorrow. All the best for the test, Iain; we're choosing to focus on just that for now, we'll offer our best wishes for the future when the retirement's officially started!

Iain you lit'le beauty!

4 wickets for 6 runs.....what a morning mate!

come on Iain im dieing to

come on Iain im dieing to hear about the 31 in Wellington, highest test score mate ;).

haha na all good I know you busy just thought I would give ya a bit of stick.

head up mate

must be tough for you at the moment but head up mate you were certainly 1 of the few who didnt let the fern down.

will be sad to see you go but a man has to do what a man has to do and you r reasons are very honarable .good luck in the next chapter of your life and give em hell in the 3rd test

Good luck Iain

I have to confess to not having read your blog before, but have always been totally impressed with your on-field enthusiasm and attitude, and I am not sure why you've retired but I really want to wish you all the best.

I actually live right over the road from the Basin and get a great view into the ground.  Something I saw on Thursday exemplified your spirit and would not have been visible to those watching on TV (and indeed I don't believe the TV commentators mentioned it).   So, I want to refer to it here so readers appreciate the 'team man' that you are.

Tuffey was obviously having his first test match outing for several years, and already had a couple of wickets under his belt when Taylor put down Aamer - a fairly simple chance at 1st slip.   Three overs later, you picked up Aamer - caught by Taylor at 1st slip.   Your very first move was to run a reasonable distance toward third man where Tuffey was fielding to 'share the wicket' with him and no doubt say "hard luck and chin up mate".

That's a real team player - and that sort of attitude will be sorely missed.

All the very best,

Ed

Good Luck

Thank you for your commitment over the last few years to NZ cricket. It was always good to see you charging in ball after ball, especially into the Wellington wind. I like many others will miss watching you play and then reading your take on the days play. Best of luck in England.

Farewell

Thanks for the memories, Iain.

I have appreciated the commitment you have always given on the field. I thoroughly enjoyed watching you in action over the past four days at the Basin whether you were bowling, batting or fielding.

I'm disappointed that I won't get to see you in action in the future, but understand your decision and wish you every good wish for your move to the UK. May you have success with Middlesex. You deserve it.

Hope all goes well for you and your wife.

Please keep the blog going so we can follow your progress in England. Thanks again.

Best wishes

Best wishes for your move to the UK. I have lived in Wellington [am from Melbourne] for nearly 10 years and during that time I've really enjoyed watching you play. You've been one of my fave Kiwi cricketers; I just love the way you put your heart and soul into your game.

I watched you in the nets at lunch time today - if only some of the others showed as much endeavour as you and Taylor - and was pleased to see you score a few runs.

I hope they pick you for the Napier game and you get a fitting send off.

I'll miss you

I just wanted to post this to say thanks to you. I have followed you (being a Welly boy myself) since you first came into the blackcaps and have followed your blog from post one. You have been great to watch consistently taking wickets and batting well and giving great insight into the nz dressing room. So thanks for being the best and giving your all to the blackcaps and I know that I wasn't the only one saddened by your announcement and I know I definetly wont be the only one to miss you.

Nice knock!!

That was great to see Iain, loved those last 2 fours you smote against Asif, you plundered the bowling of the man of the match, something the top order failed at. I think after your 31 the Black Caps should let you open for your last test? Surely you'll be better than MacIntosh has been. Or bat at 4 in place of Fulton, and then Southee could play and tonk it at number 10 himself haha. Sorry to see you go man, I thought maybe that 50 was coming, hopefully in the next one you can do it, you sure do seem to have been working hard at your batting. If Tuffey is playing in the next test they should at least send you in to bat before him, you looked far more suited out there!
